About Our Network:
Support for Preservice Educators:
Currently there are two significant projects managed by the Rural Education Network within Queensland:
The Rural Education Network is an initiative of the Queensland Priority Country Area Program (PCAP) with support from Education Queensland.
Rural Education Network's Objectives:
To improve the attraction and retention of teachers for placement in rural and remote areas in Queensland.
Support of preservice teachers, schools and communities in enhancing educational activities in rural and remote locations.
Overview
The Rural Education Network is a collaborative project to enhance the preservice preparation of students currently studying to be teachers, in the context of rural teaching.
Its brief includes:
- Support of research into areas relevant to rural and remote education.
- Advocacy for the recognition/weighting on participation in rural/remote teaching courses and field experience by employing education authorities.
- Liaison with rural/remote school communities to support student practicum in their areas.
- Collaboration between Pre-Service Institutions in activities that enhance student practicums in rural/remote areas and extend good practice in this area.
- Act as a conduit for the publicity of initiatives that are preparing prospective teachers for work and life in rural/remote locations.
- Identify alternative and/or complementary funding to support ongoing activities.
